As a community-based, not-for-profit organization, OYP Theatre School relies heavily on the support of volunteers. Last year more than 140 volunteers helped make our special events and Spring Showcase link to Spring Showcase section in Classes & Camps successful.
Want to get involved? There are many opportunities! Have a specialized skill you think could help a theatre school? Let us know! To get more information, or to be added to our volunteer database, contact the office at 613.580.2764 or email us.
Box Office volunteers are needed at each show to sell tickets, distribute programs and sell promotional t-shirts and pins. Your time commitment is about 2 hours.
Hospitality volunteers are needed for our post-performance parties. Your job is to help set up and supervise the snack tables, pour drinks and clean up. Your time commitment is about 2 hours.
Set and strike volunteers are needed to help build sets and then tear them down following each production. Experience with carpentry or construction is helpful, but not required. Your time commitment will vary with the complexity of the set. A typical strike is about 1 hour.
Costume volunteers are often needed to help organize, repair and “tweak” costumes for performances. Your time commitment will vary with the task.
Dressing room parents are often needed for our younger classes on dress rehearsal and show days. Volunteers help our small actors get ready to go on stage and provide supervision while they are not on stage! Your time commitment is about 3 hours.
Special Event volunteers are needed when OYP Theatre School participates in community events, such as the annual FestivArts event at Place D’Orleans, or participation at the Tulip Festival or Teddy Bear picnic. If you would like to be an OYPTS Ambassador in the community, this is for you. Your time commitment will vary with the event.
Board of Directors – new Directors are elected at the Annual General Meeting each fall. Board members are expected to participate on various committees (i.e. Marketing, HR, Governance, Box Office), attend monthly meetings and work on special projects. The time commitment is significant, but rewarding! For more information, contact the President of the Board.
